ADPi's Birthday Cake. Photo by Jessica Marler '03.ADPi, the first secret society founded in the world for college women, is now 150 years young! This historic occasion was celebrated internationally in every chapter, as well as a huge birthday bash in Atlanta during the summer of 2001.
On May 12, 2001, Phi Chapter celebrated ADPi's 150th Birthday with a luncheon cookout to which alumnae were invited. Delta and Pi sisters shared memories, sang songs, and reflected on the strength of our Sisterhood. Many Delta Members were able to trace their ADPi family trees to the Alumnae present, and Alumnae were able to see how their own ADPi heritage continued today. The day was topped off with the conferring of our Jewel Degree on Seniors and those Alumnae who had not yet received it.
Throughout the day it was clear that even though our Sisterhood dates from 1851, it is hardly behind the times. With a history that runs from a time of inkwells to the age of the internet, Alpha Delta Pi's focus on loyalty and Sisterhood is truly timeless.

In honor of ADPi's 150th Birthday, Executive Office encouraged all Chapters to give gifts to their respective colleges or universities, with Executive Office offering to match the gifts dollar-for-dollar. Keeping with the theme of timelessness, Phi Chapter chose a bronze sundial to commemorate ADPi's sesquicentennial on the Hanover campus. The sundial was dedicated on October 6, 2001 during Homecoming festivities. Located on the Point, the sundial will be an enduring part of the Hanover landscape, just as ADPi is an enduring part of campus life.
Happy Birthday, ADPi!!
